ROCOCO GILTWOOD PIER MIRROR WITH A SIMILAR OVER-MANTLE MIRROR. Circa 1860. The pier mirror with rectangular, beveled, mirrorplate within a conforming, beaded, molded surround, cast with cartouches, the scrolled crest carved and applied with flowerheads, leaftips, and rocaille crest, joined to the shaped marble shelf, raised on a conforming ‘S’- and ‘C’-scrolled foliate base with four cabriole legs. The over-mantle mirror of similar design, the rectangular mirrorplate within a half-round beaded molding headed by a large foliate crest, flanked by scrolling leaftips and flowerheads, joined to scrolling leaftip ears, the outer molding cast with leaftips and guilloches. SIZE: PIER MIRROR: 8’11” overall h. x 36-1/2″ w. x 12-1/2″ d. OVER-MANTLE MIRROR: 42″ h. x 60″ l. PROVENANCE: From an extensive private Gulf Coast collection. CONDITION: Pier mirror with overall very good original gilding, with some professional restoration to left crest leaf facing. Over-mantle mirror retains original surfaces and beveled mirrorplate, central crest and ears with restoration. 9-93507 (10,000-20,000)
