BOSTON FEDERAL EGLOMISE AND GILTWOOD MIRROR, BEARING THE LABEL OF “CERMENATI & MONFRINO”. Circa 1806. The stepped molded cornice above a frieze with ropetwist decoration, the rectangular milk glass eglomise panel decorated with a floral-and-vinery filled classical urn above the rectangular mirrorplate flanked by classical columns. This example bears the paper label on the original backboard of “Cermenati & Monfrino” with the address of “2 State Street, Boston”. In 1806, Paul Cermenati and G. Monfrino advertised as carvers and gilders at 2 State Street in Boston. This mirror, by virtue of the label, introduces a group made in Boston in 1806. By the end of 1806 to 1807, Cermenati was advertising a different partnership with John Bernarda with a change in label. SIZE: 33-3/4″ x 18-1/4″. PROVENANCE: The Hale Family Estate. CONDITION: Surfaces, gilding, eglomise panel, and backboard all original. With touch-ups. Areas of gilding loss throughout. 9-93054 (3,000-5,000)
