SCARCE 1ST MODEL WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 17080. Standard carbine with 20″ bbl, full magazine, integral front band and sight with 2-position flip rear sight. The receiver has the mortised dust cover with impressed checkered thumbprint and a staple & ring in the left side. It has straight grain walnut stock & forearm with straight grip & carbine buttplate with trap. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum yellow sheet identifying this carbine as having been shipped May 8, 1878. CONDITION: Good to very good. Bbl & magazine tube are mostly a plum/brownish patina behind the middle bbl band and a mottled silver/brown patina forward of the bbl band with scattered light spots of rust with a patch of heavier rust on the magazine tube. Receiver retains 50-60% thin blue, strong in the sheltered areas with a few spots of light surface rust. Wood is sound with numerous small nicks & dings in the buttstock with a couple of gouges and a carved letter and retains most of an old refinish. Forearm has a small filled area on the left side and retains most of an old refinish. Mechanics are fine. Bright shiny bore with a spot or two of light rust. 4-54885 JR221 (7,000-10,000)
