FINE BOSTON CLASSICAL MAHOGANY CYLINDER ROLL TOP SECRETARY DESK, PROBABLY BOSTON. Circa 1840. The stepped ogee-molded cornice projecting above the upper case fitted with a pair of ogee-molded panel cupboard doors, flanked by engaged fluted columns, each door fitted with a gilt metal mount depicting flower-filled urn, the lower case fitted with barrel roll opening to an interior of balanced cubbyholes above a writing slide over a pair of aligned cyma-form short drawers above two cockbeaded long drawers flanked by fluted columns raised on tapered cylindrical legs with ringed feet. SIZE: 7’8-1/2″ h. x 46″ w. x 24″ d. PROVENANCE: From an extensive private Gulf Coast collection. CONDITION: Professionally repolished and restored, the figured mahogany and crotch-cut veneers with superior color and very good patina. 9-93501 (4,000-8,000)
