*VERY EARLY NAVY CONTRACT 1911 SEMI-AUTO MILITARY PISTOL. SN 10727. Cal. 45 ACP. Assembled pistol with 1912 Navy Contract frame & a later, post-1913, Army slide with flat top fixed rear sight & “1913” patent date on left side. Frame has “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” on front left side that has had “UNITED STATES” partially obliterated & it has the “WGP” (Maj. Walter G. Penfield) inspector initials above magazine release. Right side of frame has serial number in very small numbers above trigger. It has the long spur hammer & short spur grip safety with a checkered straight main spring housing. Mounted with GI made clear plastic, aluminum lined grips with photographs of a woman & baby on right side & a young man in military uniform on left side. Right side of slide has “MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY” with the “U.S. ARMY” partially obliterated. Below slide marking at bottom edge on right side is electric penciled name “L.O. Hankins Paducah, Ky.” Consignor states that this was property of Capt. L.O. Hankins and connects him with the L.O. Hankins Hardware in Paducah, KY. Bbl is a later replacement with “COLT 45 AUTO” on lower left side and a “P” proof on left side of lug. Accompanied by an extremely rare “USN” in an oval “CLAYTON” 1911 holster with belt loop, missing leg strap. Back of belt loop is marked “XX1708”. Holster has been dyed black. Also accompanied by an early all blue lanyard loop magazine, probably refinished. CONDITION: Good. Slide retains 50-60% thin orig blue, stronger in sheltered areas. Frame retains about 30% thin orig blue with some fine pitting on front strap. Mechanics are fine, strong sharp bore with very fine pitting. Holster, polished black as noted, is dry & flexed in the flap with four small tears at rear edge and is overall very dry, in need of treatment. 4-35059 JR157 (1,250-1,750)
