ENOCH WOOD PERRY JR (American, 1831-1915) DANCING CHILDREN. Oil on canvas Housed in a partial gilt modern frame Signed lower left “E Wood Perry N.A.” and dated illegibly Born in Boston, Enoch Wood Perry is known for his evocative mid-century genre scenes. While these scenes appear to be classically American, Perry actually studied in Germany, France and Italy. Upon his return to the United States his travels continued, this time taking him on painting expeditions to the American West with fellow artist Albert Bierstadt. Perry was a member of the American Watercolor Society and the National Academy of Design. His paintings are included in numerous private and public collections including New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. SIZE: 23″ x 33″. Overall: 28″ x 38″. PROVENANCE: Inherited by descent, from the family who bought the house and contents belonging to Nathan Clifford (US Supreme Court Justice; Atty Gen. of US Ambassador to Mexico).
