*BSA MODEL 1922 BOLT ACTION SPORTING RIFLE. Cal. 260 Express. SN 4. Built on a Pattern 14 Enfield action with 26-1/2″ tapered rnd bbl, sleeved ramp mounted front sight with a 2-leaf folding peep sight built into a recess in rear receiver bridge with leaves marked “200” & “400”. They are individually windage adjustable. Bbl marked “B.S.A. 260 1922 MODEL SPORTING RIFLE” & left side of chamber area is marked “FOR B.S.A. / 260 HV CARTRIDGE” and right side of chamber area has a long series of British proofs with “26 EX / CORDITE – 120 MAX”. Mounted in a nicely figured 1-pc half stock with checkered forestock & capped pistol grip, 14-1/2″ over a BSA embossed hard rubber buttplate. It has sling eyes in butt & forestock. This cartridge is listed on p. 211 of Cartridges of the World, Barnes & Amber, and 3rd edition and is described as a belted 6.5 Mannlicher that produced around 3,000 fps with a 110 grain bullet. It apparently saw little acceptance & use in Europe & was never chambered for an American rifle. Accompanied by its orig green canvas & leather green felt lined trunk case with initials “A.C.B.” on lid. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl retains about 95% strong bright orig blue with muzzle area turning plum. Receiver, trigger guard & floorplate retain about 99% strong bright orig blue. Wood is sound with minor storage & handling marks and retains virtually all of its fine hand rubbed oil finish. Crisp mechanics, bright shiny bore. Case is moderately faded with light soil showing some wear to leather trim. 4-57497 JR173 (2,500-4,000)
