*VERY RARE SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1911 SEMI-AUTO MILITARY PISTOL. SN 103703. Cal. 45 ACP. Rare Springfield 1911 from the 2nd Springfield Contract of 1914. It has usual configuration with orig fixed sights and Springfield slide markings with flaming bomb proof at left rear edge of slide & on frame above magazine release. Left front side of frame has “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” and right side of slide has “MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY” with the Springfield eagle toward left rear of slide. Mounted with orig Springfield diamond checkered walnut grips and has flat mainspring housing with long hammer spur & short grip safety spur. Bbl bushing & slide lock are orig Springfield equipment with small “S” inspector marks. No further disassembly was affected to check for other matching parts. Bbl is an early field replacement with a “P” proof on lug. Accompanied by a “1915” dated Rock Island Arsenal, brown leather swivel holster with its orig leather strap, an early Mills web belt & a “1914” dated Mills web magazine pouch with eagle snaps containing two orig, very early Springfield magazines with folded bottoms, lanyard loops & copper slide pads at top. Also accompanying is a small box containing 29 Frankford Arsenal 45 ACP cartridges with “1 14” head stamp date. Additionally accompanying is a flat sided rnd metal oiler. Also accompanying is a fine Boyt canvas pistol rug. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Slide retains 60-65% dull orig blue with holster wear & thinning over top. Frame retains about 70-75% strong orig blue on sides & in sheltered areas with front of frame, trigger guard & front strap thin blue. Grip safety retains about 50% thin blue & mainspring housing about 80%. Grips are sound showing light to moderate wear with a dark oil finish. Mechanics are fine, worn bore. Holster retains about 80% orig russet brown finish with some flexing on flap. Web belt & mag pouch are fine showing very light wear. Two magazines are fine, being mostly a silver/gray patina on top 3/4 with bottoms a dark blue/gray patina. Oiler is fine. Pistol rug is about new. 4-35076 (6,000-8,000)
