*CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL ASSOCIATED COLT NEW SERVICE REVOLVER. Cal. 357. SN 331660. Blue finish, 6″ bbl with King Super Target ramp having a mirrored patridge front sight with ivory bead and an adjustable rear sight. It has checkered silver medallion walnut grips with checkered backstrap and a lanyard loop in the butt. A police, full basket weave belt & holster rig with handcuff pouch, a dbl ammo pouch and an ammunition carrier with twelve loops accompany it. It is also accompanied by a letter from Victor Padilla, 711 Magnolia Ave., Beaumont, CA, in which he states that this revolver was purchased in 1938 by his father, Mr. Edward Padilla for use as his duty weapon while working for the California Highway Patrol. Mr. Padilla began with the CHP in 1936 and after an incident where a suspect was shot and hit several times with 38 cal. revolvers without effect, Mr. Padilla purchased the magnum for his duty weapon and relegated his old 38 to back-up status. He reportedly purchased it in the Susanville, CA area. The King Super Target rib was reportedly installed in 1952. He reportedly never killed anyone with this revolver but disabled two automobiles that were illegally drag racing. He retired in 1962 from the CHP. CONDITION: Fine. Overall retains about 90% bright orig factory blue with muzzle and holster wear with some flaking and fine pitting on the front strap. Grips show heavy wear, mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. King rib is fine. Belt and holster rig show heavy wear and use but are still intact and supple. 4-53861 JR681 (800-1,500)
