SEVRES BUST OF “BARRA”. Circa 1885. The bisque figure executed in fine detail depicting the bust of “BARRA”, a young drummer boy in uniform. (One of the myths surrounding the real revolutionary character who in fact was killed in 1793 by royalists. The depiction as a drummer boy was put forward as fictional embodiment of the French Revolution by Robespierre, among others.) His cap inscribed “EGALITE LIBERTE OU LA MORT” on a cobalt blue gilt-decorated circular plinth. Marked on reverse of bust “SEVRES” in rectangular cartouche, above “AB-6-85” in script, above “LV” in block letters. Three marks stamped under base: “A.”, “S.82.”, and “DORE A SEVRES 85″ around edges of circular cartouche centering trademark logo. SIZE: Bust: 11″ h. Overall: 13” h.
