VERY RARE COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY BUNTLINE SPECIAL REVOLVER. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 150873. Very rare, one of a kind, with orig 12″ bbl, roll marked on the left side “COLT FRONTIER SIX-SHOOTER”. It is blue & case colored with eagle, rampant Colt hard rubber grips. The hammer screw is the extended type to accommodate the accompanying orig nickeled brass skeleton shoulder stock. This specific revolver is pictured and described in the book, THE 36 CALIBERS OF THE COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY, Brown, beginning on page 121 wherein Mr. Brown states that “according to Colt’s records, this is the only buntline ever made with a 12″ bbl”. Two Colt factory letters that provide identical information accompany it. They identify this revolver with originally having a 12″ bbl and that it was shipped March 16, 1893 to Charles J. Thorson and sold to Fletcher Jenks & Co., neither address available. CONDITION: Very fine. As restored, retaining about 98% of this fine custom finish. Case colors are bright and the blue has only minor muzzle edge wear. Cylinder has the number “226” stamped on the front around the cylinder pin sleeve. Grips have matching numbers scratched on the insides and show moderate wear. Cylinder pin appears to be a replacement and the cylinder pin screw is slightly battered, as is the hammer screw. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bore with light to moderate pitting. Stock retains 96-97% strong bright orig nickel with some scattered light spotting and edge wear on the butt. One of the true rarities in Colt single actions. 4-53923 JR535 (16,000-25,000)
