RARE ONE OF A KIND PRESENTATION COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 38 Colt. SN 154334. Most unusual single action created for Mr. J. Henry Fitzgerald at Colt to his specifications. J.H. Fitzgerald was the director of Colt’s production line and innovator of the famous “Fitzgeralds Colts”. It has a 7-1/2″ bbl, with dbl action style target front sight with ivory bead and a most unusual rifle style sight mounted in a dovetail on the top strap. There is a narrow groove about 5/8″ from the muzzle on the bottom of the bbl. It has an additional unusual feature of long grip frame and1-pc walnut grips, probably from an 1860 Army with brass trigger guard and iron backstrap. The frame is numbered “0”, while the backstrap and trigger guard have the serial number as above. The backstrap also has the 1860 Army style cutout for shoulder stock. The frame is black powder style without patent markings. It is accompanied by copies of pages from the book, THE 36 CALIBERS OF THE COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY, Brown, where it is pictured on p. 167 and 169. On page 168 is a copy of a notarized statement from Mrs. J.H. Fitzgerald wherein she states that this revolver was made for her late husband “by the workman of Colts Mfg. Co. It was made by his specifications for target shooting which he enjoyed very dearly.” One of the pictures in the book shows the cover of a book SHOOTING, by J. Henry Fitzgerald. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl retains about 95-96% bright glossy blue. Cylinder about 98% strong bright blue and the frame about all of its orig case colors, moderately faded. Backstrap retains about 95% bright blue and the trigger guard is a light mustard patina. Grips have a couple of small dings & scratches with light wear on the edges and retain about 96-97% bright varnish. Mechanics are crisp, very bright shiny bore. 4-53922 JR540 (12,500-17,500)
