*ULTRA-RARE COLT MODEL 1907 SEMI-AUTO MILITARY PISTOL. SN 172. Cal. 45 ACP. One of only 200 made for the Army for Army test trials in 1908 with 5″ bbl, fixed sights with slide/lock & checkered grip safety with diamond checkered walnut grips. Left heel of grip has a fixed lanyard loop & left front web of trigger guard has inspector initials “K.M.”. Left side of slide has three patent dates with last being “1905”. This model of pistol was built almost exactly like the 1905 model but with a grip safety & lanyard loop on grip. Magazine is an altered 2-tone 1911 magazine. These pistols were the predecessors in the lineage of the fabled Colt Model 1911 military pistol that remains in service in some areas of the world & was in U.S. military service into the 1980’s. CONDITION: Fair. Traces of orig finish remain in most sheltered areas being mostly a silver/gray patina with moderate pitting over slide. Left grip has a hairline below bottom screw escutcheon. Orig grips with unique left panel being shorter to compensate for lanyard loop. Grips are sound with a few chipped diamonds and show moderate wear, retaining a dark oil finish. Mechanics are fine, very bright shiny bore. Altogether a very rare & desirable, hard to find Colt automatic. 4-35344 JR144 (7,000-10,000)
