*SCARCE L.C. SMITH GRADE 4E DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 16 ga. SN 202216. Fine light graded little L.C. Smith with factory 24” bbls, choked IMP MOD-IMP CYL with concave tapered rib and single bead. The breech end is marked “Hunter Arms Co.” with address and a gold band. The lockplates and receiver are lightly engraved with vignettes of a setter in a field scene on the left side, a pointer in a field scene on the right side and two quail on the trigger bow. In addition it has light patterns of arabesque scrolls. It has beautifully figured French walnut with full checkered black tipped splinter forearm and Prince of Wales grip stock, 14” over a black hard rubber buttplate. It is fitted with checkered double triggers & ejectors. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter fully identifying this shotgun and indicating it was shipped May 28, 1904. Weight 5 lbs 13.9 oz. CONDITION: Very fine plus. Bbls retain most of their original finish with one small dent in the left side and some light scattered pitting near the muzzle. Receiver retains about 50% original case colors, bright in the sheltered areas, faded and turning to silver elsewhere. Lockplates retain 85-90% faded case colors. Wood is sound and retains most of a fine professionally restored finish. Brilliant shiny bores. 4-51027 JR842 (5,500-7,500)
