EXTRAORDINARY 19TH C BEESWAX BLACK FOLK ART DIORAMA. This incredible deep diorama was constructed in one point in time of beeswax which has been painted. It depicts an animated scene titled “Charcoal Club of Blackville in Session”. The diorama was done by F. Lobel sometime around 1894. Six black figures in various poses stand and are seated along a table. A humorous map hangs on the wall directly in back. An absolutely phenomenal piece of black folk art. SIZE: Approx. 21 1/2″ w x 14 1/2″ t. CONDITION: Generally good. It appears that there may have been some small object on the table that is no longer there but is in generally good condition. The simple border or frame may have been cardboard at one time has now been reinforced in the back with thin strips of pine.
