SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1873 CADET RIFLE.

SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1873 CADET RIFLE. Cal 45-70. SN 71994. Standard rifle with 29-1/2” bbl, square base front sight/bayonet lug with early 1200yd ladder rear sight. It has an 1873 marked, high arch breechblock and early 3-line lockplate markings. It is mounted in a 1-pc stock with 2 bands, slotted head rammer, and stacking swivel only on the upper band with no provision for a swivel on the trigger guard. The left side of the stock has an oval “ESA” cartouche. CONDITION: Good plus. Bbl retains a dark brown patina with light surface rust and a few light dings. Breechblock and lockplate are a mottled silver color with moderate rust pitting. Stock is sound with numerous small nicks, scratches, and dings and some battering near the tip.
