*RARE FOX MODEL DE DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 20 ga. SN 200108. Extremely rare Fox, only 49 D-Grade guns were ever produced in Philadelphia and according to the book A.H. Fox by Michael McIntosh, this is the first DE 20 ever made and was shipped January 10, 1913. Our shotgun has 30” bbls choked FULL/IMPMOD with rare factory 3” chambers. It has a tapered matted rib with single bead. The receiver has about 90% coverage engraving with vignettes of two quail on the left side, two woodcock on the right side and two bird dogs on the bottom, surrounded by foliate arabesque patterns with punch dot background. Each side of the receiver is engraved with the maker’s name. The engraving extends up the bbls about 3” over each chamber. It has beautiful highly figured marble-cake French walnut with full-checkered splinter forearm having a shield carved in the center with a center button that has engraved blossoms. The stock has straight grip, 14” over a red leather faced pad. It has checkered side panels with fleur-de-lis checkered wrist, it is fitted with dbl triggers & ejectors. This shotgun was thoroughly covered in an article by Tom Kidd in Vol. III, issue I, page 36 of THE DOUBLE GUN JOURNAL. Weight 6 lbs. 1.9 oz. Drop at the heel 2-5/8”, at the comb 1-1/2”. CONDITION: Bbls retain about 98% fine re-blacked finish with only light muzzle & edge wear. Receiver retains 15-20% original case colors, thin & faded, stronger in the sheltered areas with the balance turned silver. Wood is sound and retains most of a fine professionally restored finish.
