COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. SN 95802. Standard Cavalry configuration with 7-1/2″ bbl, 3-line patent markings and small “US” on the left side of the frame. It has 1-pc walnut grips and the small “G” sub-inspector mark on the trigger guard, which is for Capt. John E. Greer. Also it has “DFC” sub-inspector marks on the frame & bbl. It has a proper Type II ejector rod housing with a replacement smaller size bull’s eye ejector rod head. The backstrap appears to be numbered properly and has a small “A” inspector mark on the butt strap. There is a small partial “P” mark on the bottom of the left side of the grip. CONDITION: Good. All matching except the grips. No orig finish remains being an even blue/gray patina overall with fine pitting near the muzzle, altered front sight, light wrench marks at the frame end of the bbl with some hammer marks on the cylinder. Grips are modern replacements with a paper shim under the butt strap. Removing the backstrap & grip disclosed traces of old nickel finish on the inside of the grip frame and backstrap leaving one to speculate that this may have been one of the Indian Police Colts or possibly a buy-back. Will not hold on safety notch and the cylinder is loose on the pin, otherwise mechanics are fine. Strong bore with moderate pitting. 4-54843 JR581 (4,500-6,500)
