NEW YORK MILITIA ISSUE COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. SN 120792. Cavalry configuration with 7-7/16″ bbl that was probably reduced during the period of use. It is blue & case colored with 1-pc walnut grips marked with the “RAC” sub-inspector mark and the butt strap has the number “23”. No evidence of other cartouche is visible. The bbl is probably an old replacement as it had the serial number removed and appears to be refinished over fine pitting. There were 94 Colts issued to the New York militia in 1887 and this revolver is one of them as listed on page 81 of CAVALRY & ARTILLERY REVOLVERS, Kopec & Fenn. These were the last SAA’s issued during the Indian War period. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl as noted. Retains most of this custom finish. Frame retains about 30% case colors, strong in the sheltered areas, silvered elsewhere. Grip frame retains a plum/blue in the sheltered areas with the front & backstraps a silver/gray. Grips are sound with a chipped right toe and an old flattened area on the left edge. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. 4-54929 JR577 (6,000-9,000)
