This was Smith & Wesson’s first attempt at a a semi-auto pistol and only about 8,350 of these scarce pistols were produced in the period 1913-1921 in both blue & nickel finish. While these pistols were very well made with outstanding finish they were more expensive than their contemporaries and with their unusual & more expensive proprietary cartridge were not readily accepted by the buying public. Grips show light to moderate wear with light nicks & scratches and retain about 90% orig varnish, again probably from sliding around in the box. Magazine is crisp. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore, probably unfired. Box has slightly fuzzed front interior corners with a small break in top of the lid and a large break in bottom, neither of which affect the overall integrity of the box. Interior label is yellowed but intact. 4-39506 JR277 (1,000-2,000)
