SCARCE PARKER C GRADE HAMMER GUN WITH BERNARD STEEL BARRELS. SN 36491. Cal. 12ga, 30″ bbls, matted, tapered, concave rib, single silver sighting bead, CYL./CYL. chokes, 2-9/16″ chambers, extractors and dbl triggers. Top rib is marked “PARKER BROS MAKERS. MERIDEN CONN. BERNARD STEEL”. The “2” size frame is engraved with foliate arabesque scrolls, ribbon on each plate marked “PARKER BROS”, 2 pointers on left plate and 2 setters on right, circle with pointer on bottom. Trigger plate marked “PAT’D / MAR 23 / 1875″ and a single game bird. Fences are sculpted and fluted with scroll engraving. Sides of hammer and fish-tail top lever are scroll engraved. Mounted with nicely figured dark walnut, blank gold shield on top of wrist, checkered pistol grip with sculpted hard rubber grip cap with checkered center, Jostam Hy-Gun vented recoil pad, checkered splinter forend. Bore diameter: left -.763, right -.763. Bore restrictions: left -.030, right -.030. Wall thickness: left -.034, right -.033. Drop at heel:2-11/16″, Drop at comb:1-11/16″. Weight: 8lbs. 12oz. LOP 14-3/8”. The book Parker Gun Identification and Serialization identify as B4 Grade, which is C Grade with Bernard steel, top action, pistol grip, 12ga, 30″ bbls. An interesting note is trigger guard is exactly ten thousand numbers higher than all other serial numbers and has all the evidence of being the original guard. CONDITION: Fine. Bbls retain a gray-brown Damascus pattern with minor muzzle wear and thinning the entire length, brighter from protection of forend. Just behind front bead is a second sight hole that is filled and flush with the remnants of a second bead. There are normal nicks & small dings. Receiver retains a smooth silver-gray patina finish with sharp engraving. Stock is sound with nicely re-cut checkering, blank shield on top of wrist, a few minor nicks & small dings in a professional hand-rubbed, restored finish. Forend is sound with nicely re-cut checkering, some minor nicks & dings and retains a fine, professional, hand-rubbed restored finish. Mechanics are crisp with nice shiny bores, a couple very shallow, tiny pits. 4-40157 BDT99 (7,000-10,000)
