WILLIAM THOMSON (American, 20th Century) SELF PORTRAIT WITH THOMAS EAKINS PAINTING BACKGROUND. Mixed media scene shows a half portrait of William Thomson standing with arms crossed in front of the famous Thomas Eakins painting “Portrait of Professor Gross (the Gross Clinic, 1875). Signed lower right “Thomson”. Housed in a gilt and stained wood frame. One of his series in The Lost Drawings of Eakin. Thomson studied in Connecticut under Ernst Lohrmann, at the Paier Art School, and at the Meriden Trade School. His solo exhibitions include the Van Ward Gallery in Boston and Oqunquit, ME.
