*WONDERFUL BOSS DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 20 ga. SN 8299. Fabulous little upland gun with 26” bbls, choked IMP MOD/IMP CYL, proofed one ounce, 2-3/4” chambers, raised matted rib, with the bead removed. The bbls are marked with the maker’s name & address. It is fitted with single non-selective trigger & ejectors and is on a full sidelock self-opening action. It has very nicely grained French walnut with checkered splinter forearm & straight stock, 14-3/4” over a checkered butt. The stock has raised teardrop side panels with a right hand trigger guard and the trigger is right hand. The lockplates, receiver, trigger guard, opening lever and forend iron are all beautifully engraved with extremely fine English rose & scroll arabesque pattern engraving, the top tang has “SAFE” inlaid in gold and the breech end of the rib, forend tip and opening lever have an inlaid gold “2”. Both of the Boss shotguns in this auction are from the same consignor. He ordered this shotgun a couple of years later and had the gold “2”’s inlaid to distinguish them. The lockplates have gold line cocked indicators and the company’s name is on each side. The buttstock has a gold initial plate, which is engraved “J.T.McM.”, which corresponds with the name “J.T. McMillan” which appears on the lid of the accompanying chocolate brown leather case. The case is red felt lined with maker’s labels in the lid and contains a square, nickeled Boss oil bottle and a pair of Boss snap caps, along with a 2-pc brass & ebony wiping rod with implements in the end compartment along with a black Moroccan leather pouch containing a pull through, and a small chocolate leather pouch containing two spare firing pins still in their original wax paper. Weight 5 lbs. 15.4 oz. Drop at the heel 2”, drop at the comb 1-3/8”, with a slight cast off. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbls retain 96-98% strong bright original blue with very minor edge wear. Lockplates retain most of their original bright case colors and the receiver retains about 90% original case colors, slightly faded, brilliant in sheltered areas. Stock is sound and retains most of a dark oil finish. Forearm has a hairline at the back edge and has matching finish. Case is extremely fine with some corner scuffing and a few handling & use marks. 4-50357 JR755 (25,000-35,000)
