RARE COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY SHERIFF’S MODEL. Cal. 45 Colt. SN 109923. Very rare sheriff’s model with 3-1/2″ bbl, 2-line address, black powder frame with 2-pc rampant Colt eagle hard rubber grips. Accompanied by a Colt Factory letter identifying this revolver and indicating that it was shipped April 13, 1885 to Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co., Chicago, IL as part of a 2-gun shipment. CONDITION: Very good. Traces of orig finish remain in the very sheltered areas being mostly an even light to medium gray patina. Right side of the bbl and a corresponding area on the front of the frame, cylinder and loading gate have an etched cloth pattern, apparently where it rested in or on a piece of cloth in a very damp area. Light pitting on the left side of the muzzle, on the cylinder and recoil shield. Screws have slipped edges. Grips show moderate to heavy wear primarily on the right side, which is turning chocolate. Bottom of the right grip has five, small, crude “X”‘s, apparently cut with knifepoint. Mechanics need attention, will not hold on safety notch and has no half cock. Bright shiny bore with some very fine pitting. 4-55043 JR717 (25,000-35,000)
