FINE JAPANESE BLACK LACQUER FITTED BOX. Second half 19th century. The rectangular box with conforming fitted lid, decorated with a floral bouquet. The interior fitted with a tray, lifting to expose a storage compartment. One end fitted with a shallow drawer beside a square, deep drawer mounted with lock and escutcheon. The sides fitted with rings to which are attached deep purple tasseled cords for carrying. SIZE: 8″ h x 7″ w x 9-1/2″ l. PROVENANCE: From the private collection of Dorothy-Lee Jones. CONDITION: Generally in very good overall condition. Bottom corner rim of lid with chip. In addition, bottom rim of box with minor lacquer losses and with shrinkage split, similar to vertical crack at seam proper left front. Otherwise very good. 9-23214 (400-600)
