*SCARCE SMITH & WESSON PRE-WAR THIRD MODEL 44 HAND EJECTOR DA REVOLVER. SN 34725. Cal. 44 Spcl. Nickel finish with 4″ bbl, integral half moon front sight with groove rear sight in top strap. Left side of bbl is marked “SMITH & WESSON” and right “44 S&W SPECIAL CTG”. Left side of frame has small “S&W” logo. Mounted with diamond checkered silver medallion walnut grips that have the number “37939” in the right side. Serial number was observed in usual place on butt strap, back of cylinder and ejector rod gullet of the bbl. These revolvers were made only in the period 1926-1940 with only about 4,976 produced in that time frame. They were made in three bbl lengths and three calibers in both blue & nickel finish. PROVENANCE: John Irwin Estate Collection. CONDITION: Extremely fine, all matching except grips as noted. Overall retains about 98% strong orig nickel with some minor flaking on sideplate and one small spot of bubbled nickel on butt strap. Grips are crisp.
