SCARCE EARLY COLT SINGLE ACTION FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER REVOLVER. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 127387. From the famous Johnathan Peck collection. Scarce early-etched panel Frontier Six-Shooter, blue & case colored with 7-1/2″ bbl and rampant Colt eagle hard rubber grips. The etched panel is a little lower than normal on the side of the bbl and is sharp & completely legible with blue still on the raised lettering. Accompanied by a Colt factory letter fully identifying this revolver as having been shipped January 18, 1889 to Hartley & Graham, New York, NY. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl & ejector rod housing retain about 95% glossy bright blue with some thinning toward the muzzle end of the bbl and on the end of the ejector rod housing. There is a minor spot of flaking on the end of the bbl near the frame. Frame retains 40-50% orig case colors, strong and bright in the sheltered areas with the balance flaked to a medium brown patina on the left side and has been cleaned on the right side of the frame with a series of fine surface pitting. Hammer retains most of its orig case colors, brilliant in the sheltered areas, fading on the edges & exposed areas. Frame, under the loading gate, has brilliant case colors as does the inside of the frame. Backstrap retains most of its orig blue, brilliant in sheltered areas, flaked and turning to patina on the backstrap and on the butt. Trigger guard retains brilliant case blue in the sheltered areas with the front strap flaked to a light blue/brown patina. Cylinder retains 92-94% strong orig blue, bright & shiny in the flutes with the outer surface flaking. Screws retain most of their orig bright blue with only one showing a small nick. Trigger retains about 60% of its niter blue. Grips are crisp with only very minor diamond point wear. Mechanics are very crisp and it has a brilliant shiny bore with a few tiny scattered spots of pitting. 4-54111 JR548 (25,000-40,000)
