*SCARCE SMITH & WESSON FIRST MODEL 44 HAND EJECTOR TRIPLE LOCK DA REVOLVER. SN 13917. Cal. 44 Spcl. Nickel finish with 6-1/2″ bbl, integral half moon front sight with caliber marking on left side. Side plate has the Smith & Wesson logo and it is mounted with 2-pc pearl grips, smooth on left side & deep relief carved with an ox head that has ruby eyes on right side. Inside of right grip is carved in Roman numerals “XXVII”. Left side of butt strap, under the grip, is inscribed in electric pencil “L.R. DOYLE”. These scarce revolvers were made only in period 1907-1915 with about 15,375 produced in that time. They were made in four bbl lengths and eight calibers in both blue & nickel. PROVENANCE: John Irwin Estate Collection. CONDITION: Very fine, all matching including bbl & cylinder, grips are not numbered. Overall retains 95-97% strong orig nickel with some slight dulling from handling. Grips are sound, slightly oversized and retain great fire & color. Mechanics are crisp, very bright shiny bore.
