PAUL WEBER (American, 1823-1916) PAIR OF ANCESTRAL PORTRAITS. Each signed bottom right “P Weber Fourth St. 586”. Each housed in molded wood gilt frames which are slightly different. Three-quarter portrait of a seated woman holding an open book. Her arm is resting on a marble top center table. She is wearing a black dress with lace collar and cuffs. She has a gold watch with chain and fob and brooch at neck. A column is seen on left and on the right is a Hudson River landscape scene. The three-quarter portrait of the man is seen with his arm resting on the same center table and having a similar Hudson River scene over his shoulder. He wears a watch chain and a Masonic pin on his white shirt. He wears a black suit and a blue striped bow-tie. PROVENANCE: From the collection of John Kenneth Byard (Connecticut, 1886-1959).
