MASSACHUSETTS EMPIRE TRIPLE DECKER MAHOGANY SHELF CLOCK, MADE BY AUSTIN CHITTENDEN, LEXINGTON, MASS. The rectangular case surmounted by carved presenting eagle above a stack of three mahogany doors, the uppermost opening to a painted wooden dial with gilt heightened spandrels, the mid door with eglomise panel depicting a pastoral scene opening to bell striker and pendulum bob above the lower door with eglomise panel depicting a lake scene centering a pendulum aperture. Both doors flanked by full columns. Resting on the box base fitted with the lower door. The whole on a plain plinth base. PROVENANCE: Fine private Long Island, New York mansion. SIZE: 33-3/4” h x 17-1/4” w x 4-3/4” d. CONDITION: Mahogany case in fine original condition, some wear and small losses at door hinges, eglomise panel’s probably later replacements, case retains original paper label, works not examined. 9-74068 SM (800-1,200)
