VERY RARE EARLY WINCHESTER MODEL 73 RIFLE.

VERY RARE EARLY WINCHESTER MODEL 73 RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 373. Standard grade rifle with 24-1/4”, slightly heavier than normal oct bbl, full magazine, half nickel front sight with screw and short semi-buckhorn rear sight with checkered edges. It has a mortised dust cover with raised thumb print, uncheckered wood, straight stock, crescent butt plate, with 4-piece original brass & iron wiping rod. It has single set trigger and the early style loading gate screw from the outside. The lower tang has the serial number engraved rather than stamped which is standard for early rifles. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Bbl retains 75-80% original blue turning plum. Magazine tube with a couple of small dents is mostly a blue/brown patina. Forend cap retains 65-70% original bright blue. Receiver retains 25-30% original blue in sheltered areas with the balance a light gray patina. Lever & hammer retain traces of silvered case colors. Trigger adjustment screw is broken, but the set trigger still functions. Stock has a filled sling swivel hole in the bottom, and there is a hairline in the wrist, otherwise the wood is fine and retains a dark hand worn patina. Mechanics are fine and it has a strong bore with moderate pitting. 4-51232 JR1022 (5,000-15,000)
