FINE MARBLE BUST OF APOLLO, AFTER THE ANTIQUE. 19th century. Modeled of Carrara marble, this nicely executed bust after the original work known as “Belvedere Apollo”, now in Pio Clementino Museum, Vatican. Another similar example is the famous bust made from the full figure, which experts now consider to have been the work of Leochares. Mounted on a socle, and further mounted on a polychrome marble column with a turned stepped conforming base on an octagonal marble plinth. SIZE: 32″ h. of bust. 39-1/2″ h. of pedestal. PROVENANCE: From a non-profit institution in China, Maine. CONDITION: The bust retains very nice lustrous patina. The hair slightly darkened from dust accumulation, which can be easily cleaned and lightened. The socle in very good condition, as is the base. 9-93888 (4,000-8,000)
