DELUXE SPECIAL ORDER WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 40-65. SN 99729. Wonderful take down rifle with 26″ rnd bbl, full matted top, spirit level windage adjustable front sight, “1886” marked ladder rear sight and Lyman tang sight, close coupled and dbl set triggers. It has nicely figured, about 2X, walnut wood with “H” style checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with black wedge insert and smooth steel shotgun buttplate. It is accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter fully identifying this rifle and listing “inside parts nickel” and indicating shipment April 19, 1895 to order #10225. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbl retains about 90-92% orig blue turned dull. Magazine tube retains about 85% dull orig blue and the receiver about 75% bright blue turned silver on the bottom and back edges of the top of the receiver. Lever retains faded case colors in the sheltered areas and the hammer about 90% faded case colors. Wood is sound with normal light handling & use marks showing moderate to heavy wear on the forearm and moderate wear on the pistol grip with the forearm retaining 60-65% strong bright piano varnish. Buttstock retains about 90% orig varnish beginning to crackle with a small spot of softened varnish. Buttplate is a gray metal color. Internal parts appear to retain generous amounts of their orig nickel-plating. Crisp mechanics, very bright shiny bore. Front sight may be a modern replacement. 4-54329 JR202 (25,000-40,000)
