*SCARCE LC SMITH CROWN GRADE SIDE BY SIDE SHOTGUN WITH CASE. SN 8249E. Cal. 20ga, 26″ bbls, checkered, tapered, concave rib with dual ivory sighting beads, CYL./FULL chokes, 3″ chambers, ejectors and Hunter One single selective trigger. Top of right bbl is marked “L.C. SMITH CROWN GRADE” and left “MADE TO ORDER BY THE HUNTER ARMS CO. INC. FULTON. N.Y.” Muzzles have narrow band of border engraving, chambers have 1-1/2″ wedge of scroll engraving, rib extension with scroll engraving and precious metal strip. The feather-weight frame is beautifully engraved with oval on left plate with 2 setters and right plate with 2 pointers surrounded by flower blossoms and foliate arabesque scroll and ribbon on each plate marked “L.C. SMITH”. Each side behind hinge pin and on bottom around trigger plate screw are floral bouquets. Top lever has scroll engraving and gold crown on pivot. Mounted with nicely streaked walnut, checkered round knob pistol grip, black serrated hard rubber buttplate, checkered splinter forend with ebony tip insert. Bore diameter: left -.617, right -.623. Bore restrictions: left -.028, right -.004. Wall thickness: left -.039, right -.031. Drop at heel:2-13/16″ , drop at comb:1-3/4″ . Weight: 5lbs. 13oz. LOP 13-3/4″. Accompanied with Cody Firearms Museum fact sheet showing 20ga Crown with 26″ bbls with ejectors and shipped to William Reed & Sons. Also accompanying gun is a brown canvas and leather take down case with sewn-on label “William Reed & Sons, Boston, Mass.” CONDITION: Very good. Bbls retain 65-70% orig blue with some muzzle wear and thinning on sides from carrying, normal nicks & scratches and a thin rub-line from forend. Receiver shows thinning orig case colors mostly in protected areas with balance a smooth silver patina. Trigger guard shows orig blue across bow and blending with silver through grip area. Stock is sound with tiny hairline grain crack behind locks, moderately worn checkering, normal nicks, dings & handling marks and retains an oil finish blending with hand-worn patina. Forend is sound with moderately worn checkering, minor nicks & dings with oil finish blending with hand-worn patina. Mechanics are crisp, non-automatic safety, strong ejectors, shiny bores with areas in both bbls with some shallow pitting.
