23″ CLOCKWORK BLACK YOUTH WITH MOVING EYES. Although the body is full dimensional, it was created with only the front part of the head, which is oversized as are his hands. A clockwork mechanism encased within his head allows his eyes to dart left and right thus giving the realistic appearance of this young man watching you. A wire armature covered in plaster and papier mache with a highly detailed and ethnic facial characteristics along with his open mouth showing his teeth make this an interesting and appealing item. More than likely a piece like this was used to promote goods or services in the earlier part of the 20th century. SIZE: 23″ t. CONDITION: Overall very good.
