EXTRAORDINARILY RARE INCREDIBLE SCALE MODEL GERMAN FIELD HOWITZER. Incredibly detailed & completely functional scale model German field Howitzer. It has about a 11-1/2″ 60 caliber smoothbore, stepped, Krupp steel bbl & functioning half-thread breech block. There are handles & levers that function exactly like a full size Howitzer, just in miniature. The articulated trail is mostly of brass with nickel plated steel fittings. It has the gunner’s & loader’s seats just as in the original with the protective shielding around the front. Detail is so complete it even has the folding front fenders & the gunner’s door in left side. The end of the trail is articulated as in the original which lowers a spade shaped device to dig into the ground to prevent traveling to the rear when gun is fired but folds out of the way for traveling. One of the tiny cranks raises & lowers the bbl on rack & pinion gears and another crank on the other side traverses the axle for fine positioning. Wheels are of wood, 6-3/4″ diameter, with offset rims which are nickel plated steel. Width to the outside of axles is approx. 11″ and it is about 9-3/4″ high from floor to top of shield & approx. 27″ overall length. There are so many specific functions on this model that there isn’t sufficient space to detail them all. Top of bbl, over chamber area, is marked with the Argentinian crest. Apparently this was a working bench model or sample taken to Argentina to solicit orders. In more than 50 years of experience in the firearms business this is one of the finest, most detailed models this cataloger has ever examined. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl retains 50-60% orig nickel finish with recoil apparatus below retaining about 80% orig nickel finish. All brass is a wonderful mellow medium mustard patina. One of wheels has a small, easily repaired crack in the wooden rim, and there appears to be one or two small pieces missing from the Howitzer but that is not certain as there is no reference for comparison. 4-35324 JR438 (5,000-10,000)
