WINCHESTER MODEL 1866 LEVER ACTION MUSKET. Cal. 44 CF. SN 42916. Standard musket with 27″ rnd bbl, 7/8 magazine, square base front sight with broken 2-pc flip rear sight. It has straight grain walnut with 3/4-length forearm and straight stock with brass musket buttplate with trap. The forestock and magazine have three bands with the front band having a lug for saber bayonet and the middle band a sling loop with corresponding loop on the buttstock. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl & magazine tube retain a medium blue/brown patina with scattered spots of light pitting. . Receiver has rounded edges and numerous small light nicks & scratches, otherwise retains a nice medium mustard patina. Wood is sound with minor nicks & dings and retains most of an old refinish. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bore with a few spots of pitting. Top of the receiver at the front of the ejection port and corresponding area of the bbl has been filed away, apparently to accommodate the longer 44-40 type cartridge.
