CIVIL WAR ERA HENRY RIFLE. Cal. 44 RF Henry. SN 6648. Standard Henry rifle with 24-1/4″ oct bbl, integral magazine tube, German silver front sight and fixed rear sight. The orig dovetail was professionally filled a long time ago and moved about 2-3/4″ forward of the orig position, through the lettering. It has usual brass receiver and crescent buttplate with trap. The left side of the buttstock and the left side of the bbl have factory sling swivels with the remnants of the Henry bump below the stock swivel. The stock swivel base appears to be orig with a replacement stud & loop. The serial number is found on the left side of the lower tang under the wood inside the top tang channel of the buttstock and inside the toe of the buttplate. These rifles were used extensively throughout the Civil War and were largely private purchase by various units. The Confederates used them after they were captured on the battlefield. CONDITION: About good to very good. All matching. Bbl and magazine tube retain a mottled medium silver/brown patina with scattered light pitting and some wrench marks on the sides between the receiver and the rear sight. Front sight has been soldered in place and the muzzle cap screw is a replacement. Receiver is a dark mustard patina showing moderate to heavy wear with some light hammer marks by the sideplates, around the carrier opening and ejection port. Stock is nicked and dinged with heavy wear and has a crack in the right wrist with traces of orig varnish. Mechanics are fine, a little loose, worn dark bore. 4-55305 JR737 (17,000-22,000)
