FINE SHARPS BORCHARDT 2-BAND RIFLE WITH J.P. LOWER ASSOCIATION. Cal. 45-70. SN 8309. Fine, military style rifle with 32-1/8” tapered rnd bbl, square base front sight/bayonet lug with 1,100 yard ladder, military style rear sight. Top of bbl has the company name & Bridgeport address, along with “OLD RELIABLE” in script. Left side of receiver has the usual markings. Mounted with uncheckered, straight grain, American walnut with full length forearm and two bands with the upper band having a sling swivel with a corresponding swivel on front of receiver. It has a knurled head ramrod in the channel on bottom of the forestock. It has straight stock with Sharps coarse checkered, steel buttplate. Left side of butt, by the buttplate, has the small rnd cartouche of the J.P. Lower Co. of Colorado. This is one of approx. 6,900 in this style Borchardt rifle produced in period 1878-1881, many of which were sold overseas. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine. Bbl & receiver retain most of their strong, orig blue, slightly thinned over the lower forearm area. Wood is sound with a couple of gouges on buttstock and usual handling & storage nicks & scratches and retains most of its orig factory finish. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore with some scattered fine pitting just in front of the chamber. 4-30398 JR308 (5,000-8,000)
