FINE ENGRAVED MODEL 1860 HENRY LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 RF Henry. SN 1085. Usual configuration with 24-1/4″ oct bbl with integral magazine tube. It has German silver front sight blade and 1st type Henry ladder rear sight with dovetails on the bbl and rear of the receiver. It is fitted with nicely figured straight grain buttstock and 1st type round heel brass buttplate with trap. It has orig sling loops on the left side of the bbl and high on the left side of the buttstock. The receiver has beautiful full coverage engraving by Samuel J. Hoggson, identical to the work on serial number 1011 as illustrated on page 50 of the 1979 edition of The Winchester Book, George Madis. The engraving extends over all three top flats of the receiver, around the hammer and down the top tang. The buttplate tang is engraved to match. The serial number appears on the left side of the lower tang under the wood and inside the buttplate tang. It also is found on the long top tang screw and the upper buttplate screw. The other three wood screws are replacements. No serial number was observed in the top tang channel of the buttstock, therefore it must be assumed that the stock is an old replacement. CONDITION: Very fine plus. Bbl retains about 95% dull orig blue with slightly worn edges and a few scattered spots of light surface rust. Receiver retains about 40-50% orig silver-plating, strong in the sheltered areas. Stock is sound and retains most of an old high gloss varnish finish with a small chip at the toe. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. 4-54528 JR121 (30,000-50,000)
