*FINE 1ST TYPE 2ND YEAR PRODUCTION COLT GOVERNMENT MODEL SEMI-AUTO PISTOL. SN C4809. Cal. 45 ACP. Blue finish with 5″ bbl and diamond checkered walnut grips. Accompanied by an orig 2-tone magazine with unmarked base and “L” code toe. Last patent date on left side of frame is “1911” and the “GOVERNMENT MODEL” marking is on right side of frame at forward end. Slide has the orig thin front blade and round top rear sight. Bbl has bright polished skirt with a small “P” proof on top at front edge of skirt. It has a smooth, flat spring housing with short spur grip safety and full checkered wide spur hammer. Produced 1914 with 1st type slide. According to various publications the changeover to the 1913 patent dated slide occurred at about SN 4500. PROVENANCE: John Irwin Estate Collection. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Frame retains 88-90% glossy orig factory blue. Slide retains about 60% orig blue with the sides flaked & worn to a medium brown patina. Front strap is thinned to a light blue/brown patina as is the spring housing. Grip safety retains most of its orig blue. Grips are sound showing light wear on left side, moderate on right side. Mechanics are crisp, strong bore with light, fine pitting in the grooves. A scarce early Government model. 4-36808 JR44 (2,000-3,500)
