WINCHESTER 4TH MODEL 1866 RIFLE. Cal 44RF Henry. SN 156257. Standard grade rifle with 24-1/4” oct bbl, half-nickel front sight and short semi-buckhorn rear sight with checkered edges. The forend cap and buttplate are iron. It has uncheckered wood, straight stock and crescent buttplate with trap. CONDITION: About very fine. Bbl retains 75-80% original blue, dull on the upper flats, bright and shiny on the lower flats. Magazine tube retains about 50% blue with the balance turned plum brown. Forend cap and buttplate are plummy brown. Receiver has good edges and a beautiful medium to dark mustard patina. Loading gate retains about 50% thinning niter blue. Receiver has two or three small scratches at the back of the hammer slot and one or two elsewhere, none of which are distracting. A really beautiful receiver.
