SCARCE WINCHESTER HOTCHKISS 1ST MODEL SADDLE RING CARBINE. SN 12601. Cal. 45-70. Usual configuration with 24″ rnd bbl, square base front sight with 1,000 yard ski jump ladder rear sight. It has usual Winchester name & address and patent markings in three lines on left side of receiver. Mounted in a 1-pc half stock with single band retained by spring keeper & straight stock with smooth steel carbine/musket buttplate. Right side of stock, below receiver has cutoff/safety. Although these rifles were made in large quantities in period 1879-99 not many are found unaltered with orig condition. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains about 95% orig blue thinning on bottom above forestock. Receiver retains about 70% orig blue with balance flaked to a light patina. Trigger guard retains about 70-75% orig blue with balance a blue/gray patina. Stock has a sling stud hole near toe, otherwise wood is sound with a few minor nicks & scratches and some chipping around bbl band and retains a fine hand worn patina.
