*SCARCE ALL BLUE COLT MODEL 1911A1 U.S. NAVY SEMI-AUTO MILITARY PISTOL. SN 714651. Cal. 45 ACP. All blue finish with 5″ bbl, marked on lower left side “COLT 45 AUTO” and has a small “G” proof in front of bbl lug. Slide has usual markings with rampant Colt in the center and has orig fixed sights with a “P” proof in front of rear sight. Frame has a large “P” proof on left side above magazine release and a tiny “H” behind the magazine release. Right side of frame is marked “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” and “M1911A1 U.S. ARMY” over the SN and there is a small “99” on right front web of trigger guard. Slide is matching numbered to frame. Mounted with full checkered walnut grips and accompanied by a 2-tone military magazine. This pistol is from the last Navy contract and is a little unusual in that it does not have the usual “RS” inspector initials on frame, instead has the large “P” proof. Accompanied by a Colt factory letter identifying this pistol, as found, with 5″ bbl, blue finish, type of stocks not listed, special features, furnished with two extra magazines, sold to the United States Government, shipped to Officer in Charge, Naval Supply Depot, Sewalls Point, Virginia, on Dec. 2, 1939 in a shipment of 1,632 same type guns. CONDITION: Very fine. Overall retains 96-97% orig Colt military blue that has been cleaned over the entire surface, probably with steel wool or some other light abrasive material which has thinned the orig blue. Grips show little or no wear and no oil staining. Magazine is crisp & bright retaining most of its orig factory finish. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore with a few freckles of light rust. 4-39836 JR266 (3,000-5,000)
