ENGRAVED WINCHESTER MODEL 1866 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 RF Henry. SN 118024. Fine engraved ’66 in Nimschke style with about 60% coverage foliate arabesque patterns with punch dot background. Both sides have trademark Nimschke dog’s heads with blank inscription ribbons. The bottom of the carrier and the area around the timing spring screws are engraved in typical Nimschke patterns of a four-petal flower on the bottom of the carrier and mirror image foliate patterns around the screws. The top of the receiver & top tang are also engraved in Nimschke patterns. Our rifle has a 24-1/4” oct bbl, full magazine, half nickel front sight and ladder rear sight with tension spring and has Winchester and Kings markings on the top flat. It has nicely figured uncheckered wood with straight stock and crescent buttplate with trap. The stock & forend cap have factory sling swivels. CONDITION: Good to very good. All matching with the serial number in the top tang channel on the stock and inside the toe of the buttplate. No original finish remains with the bbl & magazine tube retaining a dark plum brown patina with light to moderate edge wear and scattered fine pitting. Receiver has slightly worn rounded edges and retains a beautiful medium patina. Wood is sound with small nicks & scratches and retains a fine hand rubbed patina.
