PAIR OF HAYDEN CO. JACOBEAN STYLE JARDINIERES. Circa 1925. Each carved oak cabinet of triangular form with removable top opening to a compartment fitted with a removable tin liner, the frieze carved with scrolling blind fretwork, the rear of each branded “THE HAYDEN COMPANY NEW YORK”; raised on three barrel-turned cylindrical legs joined to a conforming triangular shelf with molded edge, raised on suppressed ball feet. SIZE: Each 31-1/2″ h. x 24-1/2″ w. x 17″ d. PROVENANCE: From an East Sangerville, Maine private collection, by descent from Dr. Samuel Cox Hooker (1864, Brenchley England -1935, Brooklyn Heights, New York), a sugar chemist, magician, and art collector, to the present owner, his great-grand-daughter. Dr,. Hooker commissioned the jardinières for the conservatory of his home in Brooklyn Heights, New York. CONDITION: Very good structural condition, with dry original finish, in need of repolishing.
