EMILE ALBERT GRUPPE (American, 1896-1978) “LONG ISLAND FISHING BOATS”. Rare oil on board Long Island, New York harbor scene showing several boats at moorings and tied to docks in a small harbor. Two sailboats are seen tied to dock in foreground, one with sail up. Outstanding colors in a nice composition. This is the only known example of a New York composition by this artist that we have been able to find. Back of board has two exhibition labels from the Salmagundi Club. One from their Thumb-Box Exhibition. The other from the Annual Auction Sale and Exhibition with title, artist and price. A chalk inscription on back “78”. Housed in a fine carved arts and crafts style replacement frame. SIZE: 16” x 12”. CONDITION: Three inpainting touch up areas in sky. Very good. 9-98850 (8,000-12,000)
