*RARE CASED WINCHESTER HIGH WALL TAKEDOWN SCHUTZEN RIFLE. Cal. 32-40. SN 109315. Spectacular & rare cased high wall with 30” No. 3 weight oct bbl, windgage globe front sight, slot blank in rear seat with a mid-range vernier tang sight with 3” staff. Mounted with spectacular flame grain, highly figured, checkered, American walnut with black insert, semi-schnable tipped forearm and heavy Schutzen stock that has squared comb and thick cheekpiece with checkered, capped pistol grip and a Helm steel Schutzen buttplate with long prongs. It also has Schutzen dbl set triggers with spur lever. Top of the bbl is factory drilled & tapped for target scope blocks and it is accompanied by a Winchester A5 target scope with its orig lens covers and extremely rare leather carrying case. Forearm is factory fitted with a palm rest base. Left side of lower tang, under the wood, is stamped with the assembly number “7756” and “X”. Assembly number is also found on butt of the stock, under the buttplate and inside toe of the buttplate. Right side of buttstock has 2-3/16” silver oval inlay engraved “PRESENTED / BY / J. & M. Haffen”. Also accompanied by its orig & extremely rare, green felt lined, leather trunk case, compartmented in bottom for stocked receiver, bbl, the orig mushroom palm rest, the orig semi-buckhorn rear sight with its orig envelope, a lead foil tube of Winchester grease, an old leatherette covered, gem razor box filled with over-powder cards and a punch. The other end has a compartment containing a box of 49 new primed empty 32-40 brass casings and two boxes of Winchester No. 5 primers, one full and one almost full. Also accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter fully identifying this rifle as found with all accessories, although the case is not mentioned, as having been shipped May 25, 1910. It was returned & repaired Aug. 31, 1911. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl retains 97-98% strong, orig factory blue with only faint, sharp edge wear. Receiver retains 95-96% strong orig blue with some freckling on the left side. Lever, hammer & breechblock retain most of their orig case colors, turned dark on lever and slightly faded on hammer, brilliant on breechblock. Wood is sound with very minor handling & storage marks and retains virtually all of its orig piano varnish finish. Buttplate retains about 50-60% orig blue with balance flaked to a medium patina. Will not cock on closing, otherwise mechanics are fine, brilliant shiny bore. Case & accessories and scope case are fine. The scope retains most of its orig blue with good optics. 4-30622 JR326 (25,000-35,000)
