RARE AUSTRIAN AMBERG PARAPET RIFLE. Cal about 1”. Unusual massive percussion rifle with 35-3/4” heavy oct bbl, 1-5/8” diameter at the muzzle. It has a blade front sight and a 1200 meter ladder rear sight with 3 small touch mark proofs over the chamber. The banana shaped lockplate is marked “AMBERG 1844” over a crown and there is a cartouche on the left flat of a crown over crossed swords. It is mounted in a heavy half stock with iron schnable forend tip secured with 2 wedges and 2 lock screws through a J-shaped sideplate. It has a wide iron trigger guard/grip with DBL set triggers and a deep cheekpiece with a heavy iron buttplate. Right side of the stock is fitted with a wooden sliding patchbox cover. CONDITION: Good. Metal retains an even dark brown patina overall. Stock has a crack on the right side of the forestock and is missing a long sliver in that area. There are a couple of small cracks in back of the lockplate and a couple of others by the sideplate with a chip of wood missing below the lockplate and at the back of the top tang. 4-50791 JR33 (1,500-2,500)
