FINE ROCOCO REVIVAL ROSEWOOD MARBLE TOP CHEST. Circa 1860. Probably New York. The rectangular case with white marble top, turret corners, and molded edges, fitted with the astragal-arched mirrorplate within a molded surround, the conforming frame surmounted by an acanthus-carved shell crest, the outer frame with scrolling bellflower fillets, scrolling leaftips, and floral rosettes. The chest fitted with a row of three short drawers above three graduated long drawers, the front of each recessed with shaped raised panels and deep molded edges, the turned knobs of rosewood. The columnar carved pilasters with scrolled acanthus capitals and bases, on conforming cylindrical feet, the case sides applied with stepped molded panels. The whole on a molded plinth. SIZE: 104-1/2″ overall h. x 50″ w. x 22-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: From an extensive private Gulf Coast collection.
